Book, sermon and letter excerpts — and more — for your edification
|
Seeking for the church: One thing that characterized the church of the first century was fellowship — the koinonia shared by her members. The root for this word in the Greek is the same as that for sexual union or a mortised joint. This indicates that the fellowship they knew was more than enjoying one another's company or sharing material possessions. Their lives were knitted together in the life of their Lord. |
Throughout time, the Lord has used men to speak a word to His people that has corrected, exhorted, inspired or instructed them in significant ways. By these, He has built up His people in the faith, fitted them into His Body as functioning members and equipped them for the work of service. In this section, I will try to include some of the best book, sermon and letter excerpts that I can find.
But, since this is a rather broad section, I will also include other writings that, while not having the test of time, might also be profitable for your growth in the things of the Lord. Included among these is the testimony of how the Lord has dealt with me.
Your suggestions, submissions, comments and questions are very welcome.
Patching Old Garments & Kissing Frogs
Patching Old Garments & Kissing Frogs: an evaluation of the Reformation and its gospel in light of the New Testament and church history. It is written in two parts:
- Kissing Frogs looks at the nature of the New Testament gospel — and how that differs from what is preached today — using my personal testimony (sorry about that — really) as an extended illustration;
- Patching Old Garments is a concise history of the church, not in boring details of the politics and intrigues of the institution, but more as a slice of life;
as well as an Introduction, dealing with some important issues to consider as we look for a restoration of the church.
